My work focuses on categorizing and organizing elements, even when they are juxtaposed or overlapped: types of birds, life cycles of plants, the structure of internal combustion engines. I work in ink & watercolors, with gouache and pencil accents, primarily on rice paper. The rice paper, due to its being unsized, has a delightful flair for mayhem - color tends to go everywhere and there is never, ever an opportunity to “undo” anything. It's great! I enjoy the process of managing chaos through repetition of details. Other media include traditional watercolor papers and pyrography, both of paper and wood.
I was born in the Seattle area but live and work in Brooklyn, Ny. In addition to visual art, I am involved in the experimental music scene here in New York.
My work has been featured on several album covers as well as private collections around the country.
