Jez Lister

I spent many years designing clothing and silk screening garments, both of my own design and for commissions. I returned to study Art full time in 2015, and, at first my focus was on silkscreen. This led me to experimenting with paint, to create interesting backgrounds on which to print over. This investigation led me further to explore the use of acrylic paint and the different effects that can be obtained from this medium. My research into various artists led me to Abstract Expressionism and this is a movement that I particularly gravitate towards. As a result, I have focused on abstract images within my work that have been produced intuitively and in response to some of the major emotional events in my life. In addition, I have also explored different surfaces on which to paint to discover the types that respond to my mark making, thereby producing the most satisfactory results for me.
