I own Jim Spelman Visuals, Inc. and Spelman & Co. and have been photographing commercially and artistically for a long time. Although I've sold many commissioned works that I'm very proud of, this is my first foray into selling my personal artwork. It's taken a long time to get up the courage to create this dream and find the space in my life to do it. I'd say I'm having an awakening and my artwork really shows this (at least I hope so). These artworks are from my heart and my soul--a soul that seen a few things over the last 16 years. As with all of us, life has taken some turbulent turns and I'm using those gifts (because isn't what life throws at you what you make of it?) to stoke and stir my creative, visual passion. We call the studio our workshop because we are constantly photographing, constructing, inventing, breaking things, gluing things!, printing and concocting all with an endless delight in wanting to create newness. I'm admittedly self taught spending 10's of thousands of hours, untold energy and expansive resources throughout many years on my visual craft for no other reason than that I love what I do. My personal daily investment is constant--madly experimenting, impressively failing, celebrating successes and ultimately learning to depths that only passion and persistence can take a person.
A Note of Authenticity: All of my works are created by me and printed with archival inks on archival papers right here in the studio. Every detail is accounted for as we mount and frame all prints by hand, too. We're proud of our 'hand-made' tradition and thank you in advance for purchasing a personally signed work from a craftsman's workshop rather than a generic art store. Our heart, love and passion is present in each of our works.
