Jiri Papousek

 
I was born in Prague in 1950.  As a boy of ten, I liked  1. Football, 2. Drawing/painting and 3. Reading.  But it was recommended to me by family elders to find something more practical as a profession. So  I studied at secondary school and then  journalism at Charles University in  Prague. After graduation (1974), I worked in different magazines as an editor.  Besides editing or writing articles I had sometimes   an opportunity to do something “visual” – such as taking photos and later also doing illustrations for different purposes. Concurrently, for fun, I  was doing collages at home, and sometimes I also painted. 
Then came some health troubles  and turned my life upside down. I wasn´t able to do demanding work in the editor-office any longer or even travel somewhere to do interviews or reports.  I had to find new way of making money for living! After some hesitation I succeed in persuading my wife (who is an accountant) and we established an accounting business at home.  
Frankly speaking, that time spell was no doubt the most adventurous in my life.    I was accustomed to doing one kind of thinking (using one part of brain) and suddenly I had to change it completely.   I had quite a bit of trouble with that transition...

Charles University Prague 1969-1974

Until today, I took part in several group exhibitions in Prague, in the 1990s. (I exhibited mostly  collages.) Later on, I had three solo exhibitions in Prague. (Gallery Mimo 2002, Artotéka 2005, Chodovská tvrz gallery 2015). 
I also twice took part in exhibition (or competition show) of folk  artists in Gallery Pro Arte Kasper in Morges - Switzerland. In 2004,  I was there awarded by “Prix Georges Kasper”.
