Joaquim Barreto is a photographer and film-maker with a multicultural background, living and working in Rome. Along with his career, he has travelled and worked across Portugal, Australia, China, United Kingdom and Italy, experimenting with diverse artistic and cultural environments. From an early-stage career in Macau and overall China, he formalized his interest in photography by completing a Master in Fashion Photography at the University of Arts London, London College of Fashion, in 2005. This followed the opening of his personal studio 'Barreto Photography' which he ran for over 15 years in London. By developing artistic and commercial projects, Joaquim Barreto has collaborated with prestigious partners such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Royal Academy of Arts, Motorola, Bill Skinner, Anakonda, James Lakeland, and Gallery Hang Ten, London. Through his practice, he has been able to specialize in Fashion, Portrait, Architecture, Landscape and Daily-life imaging. His work has been awarded the Linhof Distinction (2008), and has been exhibited for solo shows such as 'The Collector', the Camera Club, London (2018); 'Celluloid Fiction', Genesis Cinema, London (2014); 'Opening Exhibition', 504 Gallery, London (2014); 'Macau Photography Exhibition', Military Club, Macau (2009); 'The Contingent Republic', Centre for Creative Industries, Macau (2006).

As a filmmaker, he has received three awards for the short film 'Nation Down' at Caorle Film Festival in 2018.
