Joe Strachan is a South African artist, living in Durban. His artwork is deeply influenced by his artistic upbringing, with both parents fostering his passion from an early age.
Strachan has been working primarily with oil, yet also loves exploring the mediums of gouache and water colour, using his own unique techniques that elevate his compositions.
Inspired by Monet, Bonnard, Gauguin, and graphic novel artists such as Mike Mignola and Darwin Cooke, Strachan’s distinctive portrayal of figures in everyday settings are brought to life using expressive brushstrokes and bold colors.
Joe Strachan’s distinctive works portray an emotional intensity through simplified, exaggerated forms that reflect a blended form of Post-Impressionism, Expressionism and Modern Figurative art.
Joe Strachan was educated by his mother who is an established art teacher and his father who is an artist and professor of arts of some renown in South Africa.
