ABOUT
EDUCATION
Johan Ehlers is a South African contemporary artist whose work explores the quiet tensions between time, memory, presence and human existence.
Working primarily in acrylic, he incorporates materials such as rust, leather, wood, ceramic and metal, embracing their texture, imperfection and capacity to carry traces of time. His restrained compositions invite contemplation, leaving space for the viewer to find their own meaning.
Much of Ehlers’ work is created from his studio on the stoep of his home in Stanford and now in Robertson, South Africa, where landscape and solitude provide an important backdrop to his practice.
His work has found homes with collectors in New York, Geneva, Dubai and Cape Town, among others.
