About John Hogan
Statement: Throughout my life I have experienced numerous apparitions, which I believe have been spirits that have passed. The earliest of these experiences was when I was four years old, I was awake lying on my bed, the light was on and I was falling asleep, I was awoken by an image on the wall to my side, it was of a head of a bearded man, he was laughing, emanating from him were bellowing, beautiful colours, I was not afraid, but instead felt an inner peace. This experience amongst others, influenced me greatly. Human beings are fantastical, unique and special. The 'self' composed of envirobiopschosociospiritual elements, is fundamental to my Ethos and to my work. My work is an exploration of that which is tangible and that which is not. The universe and its relation to humanity, and the spiritual essence of self, constitute the abstract elements in my work. The graphic elements may also describe the human egg, spermatozoa, micro organisms, human cells, dna, the sun and planets, the cosmos, and the human soul. I number and letter my work to describe the painting, The moment, and also to describe all humans that have been, who are present today and those in the future. I paint a white border around my work, to describe the infinite line of life.
