John Sauv is considered one of the top Michigan artists working today. A Brighton resident, he has a Masters in Art and Bachelors in Art History from Michigan State University. Sauv has worked for the Michigan Council for the Arts and is currently serving as Chairperson for the Birminghams Public Art Board. His work has been shown in Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Canada and Through out the Midwest and most recently he was commissioned to do a series of sculptures for the North American International Auto Show.
Sauv 's Man in the City series. The series is comprised of 10 large scale stainless steel sculptures located in 10 different cities around the country. Each sculpture is created to be site specific to the city and to the geographic location of the artwork. Dasein, the first sculpture in the series was dedicated in 2003 and is located in Brighton, Michigan. The dedication committee for the "Dasein" sculpture was under the direction of Chairperson Roz Rymal, the daughter of famed sculptor Marshall Fredericks, who brought her vast experience in public art to the project.
