Phil Jopson

Philip Jopson is a multi-media artist who has exhibited his sculpture, drawings, short films, performance art and poetry in Australia, New Zealand and internationally. He was trained as an architectural stained glass designer and has also designed and built a passive solar, energy efficient house out of recycled materials.

Phil was born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1959 and is currently living and working in Melbourne.

He has a BA in Sculpture and Architectural Stained Glass (University of Western Sydney, AU) and an Honours in Sculpture / Film (University of Canterbury, NZ).

In the 1980s Phil was one of the founders and curators of Street Level Gallery, the first contemporary artist run gallery in the outer west of Sydney, Australia. While there he curated two ground breaking exhibitions; Outsider Art and the multi media event Signs of Survival, celebrating local aboriginal artists.

He worked as a Studio Technician for Finglinna Studios Sydney in 1990’s, supervising the construction and installation of major architectural stained glass commissions.



In 2012 he was involved in guerrilla art interventions in the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquake.
