Joris Kuipers

I make layered environments through wall sculptures,
suspended installations, and freestanding pieces —
each conceived in dialogue with its architectural context.
My practice moves fluidly between painting and sculpture,
merging hand-painted surfaces with precisely laser-cut
layers to build compositions rich in depth and structure.
Techniques such as alla prima, faux peinture, and
sprezzatura inform surfaces that feel both intentional
and alive.

Nature is a constant reference. Through color, rhythm,
and organic form, I bring movement and attentiveness
into interior spaces. Rooted in the Baroque, Rococo, and
Arts and Crafts movements, my work explores ornament,
materiality, and craftsmanship — reinterpreted for the
spaces and stories of today.

Inspired by Shinrin Yoku — the Japanese practice
of forest bathing — I approach each composition with
the same quality of attention that nature demands.
Slowness. Balance. A willingness to observe before
acting. These qualities shape not just how I work,
but what the work asks of the people who encounter it.

The pieces are not only to be seen, but to be felt —
a spatial experience that creates room for reflection,
stillness, and quiet energy.
