My monochrome drawings are influenced by sumi-e, this Japanese art characterized by the sobriety of the composition. The beginning of a sumi-e work is done without prior sketch and without precise intention of the composition, the spontaneity of the initial gesture continues throughout the creation, letting my unconscious express itself in a new and intimate interpretation of the subjects . The vacuity (blank background of the support) and the form balance to give life to the entire surface. The result is refined works evoking the wide open spaces accessible by the mind once freed from daily concerns.

The interest of this approach became apparent to me after reading the book by Alan W. Watts entitled Zen Buddhism. It is about the Tao “which generates the world without creating it, that is to say by making it become”. I see there this powerful impulse which leads living things to develop and which arouses the creative impulse in the artist. I perceive all the creative potential of the Vacuity, this emptiness which allows the appearance of form and which, through the unoccupied space, opens up to the interpretation of the work.
