Julia Breiderhoff

Julia Breiderhoff is a German painter based in Rome, where she has lived for more than thirty years. Born in Solingen in 1971 and raised in Stuttgart, she grew up in a bilingual German-French environment, in a family connected to art and architecture.

Her background spans acting, theoretical physics and therapeutic work, experiences that continue to inform her exploration of perception, identity and human relationships. She has devoted herself to painting for more than fifteen years.

Working primarily in oil on canvas, sometimes combined with gold leaf, she explores the relationship between people and the world around them. Beach umbrellas, seascapes and everyday objects become images of shelter, vulnerability and belonging. In her figurative paintings, gesture and posture convey the tensions and tenderness of human encounters.

Her recent Tarot series reinterprets the twenty-two Major Arcana through contemporary triptychs, exploring desire, power, intimacy and transformation.

Expressive brushwork and a personal use of colour reflect her desire to hold a moment of relationship—between people, between the individual and the world, and between what is visible and what is felt.
