Julie Spencer

I was a classically trained violinist from age 5 who decided at 18 to drop the bow and pick up the brush. As a result, my work is fluid and organic, often inspired by music. My initial background as a figure painter evolved during the pandemic when I could no longer get live models. Today, I find inspiration in nature, applying the same fluid and organic shapes from the figure to the natural world. My practice is expressionistic, often exaggerating colors and shapes in order to highlight the memory of that moment.

Before becoming a painter, I worked in NYC in marketing and media, directing creative pursuits. In this latest stage of my life, I get to BE the creative!

I am currently pursuing my Painting Certificate from the Rhode Island School of Design. I also hold a BA from Kalamazoo College and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
