About Julius Poncelet Manapul

Julius Poncelet Manapul was born in the City of Manila, Philippines in July 8, 1980. Gaining his BFA at Ontario Collage of Arts and Design University and an MVS at University of Toronto. His work is influenced by Baroque aesthetics, and the domestic queer narratives, informed by contemporary materials and the digital space. Julius cuts to create new hybrid imaginaries, combining the fictional and the real space within his installations. Exploring the unattainable utopian narratives of the imagined Queer happy endings, that reflect his own struggles in religious beliefs growing up as a gay young man in the Philippines and Canada. All in all placing questions in his coming out process and his own racial melancholia.
