João Victor Medeiros (Brazilian, 1996) is a photographer, director of photography and visual artist based in Juiz de Fora, working working across many genres to explore and document themes that gravitate around the youthful manifestation of Brazilian blackness. With a specialty in portraiture and documentary photography, João Victor works with
consolidated names and on the rise of Brazilian art.
In 2019, he marked a turning point in his career by attending his first international art fair, being one of the artists selected to the Chicago edition of The Other Art Fair. The two series of photos he took to the exhbition were well received: half of the works on display were sold. As soon as he returned from Chicago, João Victor was invited to join the rapper BK’s team as an official
photographer. Since then, he has been a fundamental part of the artist's aesthetic decisions, contributing not only as a photographer but as a video artist, screenwriter and creative director.
In 2019 João Victor graduated on Journalism and Social Communication at the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora. He also was part of a debate table on “the image and representation of black people in history” at the fifth
Diamantina History Festival. Later in 2019, he started writing for the Monkeybuzz website, reviewing records and conducting interviews with new names of music in Brazil.
