Koji Hanabuchi

As a commercial photographer specializing in culinary arts and premium beverages, my career has been defined by capturing the "perfect" moment of consumption. My daily practice involves crafting flawless, appetizing visuals—the ultimate peak of artificial perfection. However, this relentless pursuit of the pristine led me to its inevitable counterpart: decay.

In my fine art practice, I reverse this lens. I apply the same rigorous lighting, composition, and macro techniques used for high-end commercial products to organic matter in a state of putrefaction. By framing the grotesque and the decaying with the polished aesthetic of commercial photography, I aim to elevate the "ugly" to a state of striking, uncomfortable beauty.

Decay is not merely an end, but a vibrant, violent transformation. Through my work, I invite viewers to step out of their everyday reality, confronting the profound dichotomy of life and observing our own inescapable existence from the outside.
