Kabeya Ilunga (born in 2003 in Goma, DR Congo) is a self-taught visual artist whose work blends hyperrealism with Afro-descendant heritage. Shaped by a history of conflict and exile, he reconnected with art in 2023 while living in a refugee camp in Uganda. This return gave birth to AFROCENTRIK, a collection of fifteen portraits exploring Black pride, ancestral traditions, and African memory.
Through gazes, scarifications, and symbolic patterns, Kabeya tells intimate and collective stories of identity and resilience. His practice merges technical precision with a strong cultural voice, celebrating the richness of African aesthetics.
Exhibited across East Africa including Makerere Art Gallery, Kiggundu Art Studio (Kampala), and Nafasi Art Space (Dar es Salaam) and in Europe in Berlin (Germany, 2025), Kabeya also links his art to social causes. He participated in the global initiative Young Leaders for Arts and Health, connecting young artists worldwide around art, health, and leadership. Currently based in Kampala, he continues to expand his artistic presence on the international stage.
