Kara Wilson is an abstract visual artist working primarily in screenprinting. She currently resides in Westchester County, NY. Her work explores the abstraction of portraiture and landscape, expressed through layers of deconstructed geometric shapes. Kara’s process begins with the surprising forms that cross her semi-conscious mind. The impressions of individuals, scenes in nature, and objects combine, calcify, and condense.
The focus of Kara’s work is the dynamic relationship between humans and nature. She is fascinated by how nature’s innate rhythms influence us. Yet, in the pursuit of engineered perfection, and through our attempts to control or enhance ourselves, each other, and our environments, these rhythms get tuned out. By re-interpreting a portrait or landscape through elemental shapes, form, and color, Kara aims to create space for another rhythmic version of a soul or terrain.
The screenprinting process inherently mimics the way her dream visions render themselves in her mind’s eye, one element at a time. After an initial hand-drawn sketch, she then renders her visions as digital sketches, and uses both digital and traditional tools to produce each silkscreen.
