Karen Nielsen Licher

Karen Nielsen Licher is an installation artist, painter and photographer. Her work is informed by the substance and textures of the earth. Throughout her travels in the Southwest, Licher gathers various colors of earth and sand which are directly incorporated into her paintings and installations. Her artwork explores our relationship to the earth in addition to questioning our cultural values. Licher's installations in particular can be seen as an intention to contribute towards a resanctification of the local landscape. While exploring the ideas of minimalism, she found that the corporeal presence of earth was essential for the work that she was creating. Her most recent work evokes a sense of a transcendent reality.
