Karin Czermak

Karin Czermak is an Austrian artist creating atmospheric abstract landscapes inspired by nature, memory and the feeling of a place.

Her artistic process often begins outdoors, where she collects colours, shapes and impressions through plein-air sketches. Back in her studio, mountain silhouettes, forest lines and shifting light are transformed into floating fields of colour, layered forms and expressive marks.

Moving between abstraction and the recognisable, her paintings do not describe a landscape literally. Instead, they evoke its mood, movement and quiet poetry, leaving space for viewers to discover their own memories and associations within the work.

Czermak studied Fine Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Wolfgang Herzig and Johanna Kandl. She also holds degrees in Social and Cultural Anthropology and Chinese Studies. Having lived and worked in several countries, including China, her perception of landscape has been shaped by different places, cultures and ways of seeing.
