Karin Doering

My work explores the tension between identity, the body, concealment, and transformation. I understand painting not as representation, but as a space of inner movement, a site where what cannot be fully defined becomes visible through presence, surface, and material.

I work in evolving series that develop organically through process rather than predefined concepts. Acrylic, structural elements, 24 carat gold, platinum, and mixed media are not used decoratively, but as carriers of meaning and perception. These materials reflect, obscure, and interrupt vision.

Concealment in my work is not a retreat, but a deliberate gesture. Faces and bodies appear not as fixed identities, but as projection surfaces shaped by the tension between visibility and withdrawal.

I am interested in what exists beneath the surface and in what becomes perceptible only when direct access is denied.
