Ekaterina Smetanina

Ekaterina Smetanina is a visual artist whose practice explores human presence, intimacy, memory, and the emotional space between people.

Working primarily with figurative imagery, she is interested in moments that exist between closeness and distance, recognition and uncertainty. Her figures often remain partially undefined or fragmented, allowing gesture, posture, texture, and material to carry the emotional weight of the work.

Her process combines observation with intuition. Rather than describing a specific narrative, she creates open-ended images in which the viewer can recognize something personal — a memory, a sensation, or a familiar state of being.
