Klaus Reis

Klaus Reis (1978, Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian painter and book illustrator, currently living and working in Valencia, Spain. He holds a degree in Fine Arts, a master's degree in art theory, and a Ph.D. in Drawing. Klaus also has worked as a painting/illustration professor in a Fine Art degree. About his work he says: "My work has a strong narrative component and stems from my interest in Brazilian popular culture, specifically the imagery of the Brazilian Northeastern 'literatura de cordel' (originally a rural popular literature genre) contrasting with contemporary urban life issues. Even in my most conventional works, I aim to introduce an element of mystery, create multiple interpretations of the image, and stimulate the viewer's narrative spirit. In plastic terms, I seek to explore a variety of techniques and materials to create my artwork. This includes experimenting with different types of paints, pigments, papers, and supports, as well as exploring both traditional and contemporary painting and illustration techniques.
