KOU-KA is a mother-daughter art unit that embodies 90 years of collective dedication to the path of Japanese calligraphy. The duo consists of a Master Calligrapher with over 60 years of experience and her successor, who achieved national recognition in Japan.
The Master, who has operated her own school for over 20 years, focuses on "Mu" (Void), "Zen," and "Ku" (Emptiness)—philosophical concepts that she translates into powerful, disciplined brushstrokes. Her work often serves as the visual identity for prestigious media, including national television logos. Her daughter, with 30 years of practice and a background as a national champion in high school group calligraphy, explores the "Ensō" (Zen circle) and the laws of nature—Wind, Light, and Eternity.
By mounting their minimalist ink works on modern washi-layered panels and contemporary scrolls, KOU-KA reinterprets ancient spiritual wisdom for the modern interior. Their mission is to bring a sense of "Do" (The Way) and meditative stillness into the lives of collectors worldwide.
Master (Mother): Over 60 years of rigorous training in traditional Japanese calligraphy; Certified Calligraphy Instructor for 20+ years.
Successor (Daughter): 30 years of practice; Former National Champion in High School Calligraphy Group Competition, Japan.
Media & Projects: Creator of official calligraphy logos for Japanese Television programs (Master).
Artistic Activity: Extensive history of participating in calligraphy exhibitions across Japan.
