Kristi Glidewell

I am a Charlotte, North Carolina–based artist creating contemporary Southern oil paintings inspired by the objects, patterns, places, and traditions that feel like home to me.
After more than 20 years as a dentist, I returned to a lifelong love of art and began painting full time. My years in dentistry shaped my appreciation for craftsmanship, composition, and detail, but in painting I am drawn to a looser, more expressive approach and the freedom of working with color.
My work combines traditional Southern subjects with a fresh, collected aesthetic. My current collections include sporting porcelain, painted scarves, Southern landscapes, and floral studies. While the subjects vary, each reflects my love of color, pattern, interiors, and the familiar details that give a place its personality.
I live and work in Charlotte and am a member of the Guild of Charlotte Artists.

I began my formal study of painting at Holt School of Fine Art in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I continue to take classes in oil painting. I have also studied through workshops with North Carolina artist Andy Braitman. Prior to pursuing art full time, I earned my Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and practiced dentistry for more than 20 years.
