I am searching for a form for the invisible.
I am interested in feelings - things that cannot be seen, yet can be felt. They lack defined outlines, and I find it compelling to discover a form for them on the canvas - through shape, colour, movement, and space.
I do not want to know in advance what this form would look like. That is precisely why I have no interest in creating a sketch and transferring it onto the canvas. For me, the most fascinating part occurs in the moment when I do not yet know what will emerge.
Sometimes a piece begins with a specific thought or subject, but as I work, I allow these to evolve. I let the process go out of control and make space for the unconscious. It is in this very moment that I experience the greatest sense of freedom and joy/satisfaction in painting.
For a long time, I sought freedom somewhere outside of myself. I believed it was something to be found, achieved - that I had to travel somewhere or rid myself of something. But only when I allowed myself to be fully immersed in the creative process, I did realize that the missing freedom had been right there all along. And, perhaps the most strange part of it is that I had been the one pushing it away.
