Laura Sandor Evals

My work is an exploration of the invisible layers of human experience, the emotions, contradictions, and transformations that shape who we are.

I am drawn to the tension between structure and chaos, control and surrender, presence and disappearance. Through layers, knots, gestures, and flowing forms, I explore what happens when things begin to unravel, when familiar structures dissolve, and something new slowly emerges.

For me, painting is not about representing reality, but about giving form to what often remains unseen. Each work becomes a space where opposing forces can coexist, where fragility meets resistance and uncertainty becomes a possibility for transformation.

I am interested in the beauty of imperfection, in the traces that experiences leave behind, and in the idea that something meaningful can emerge from what appears broken or unresolved.

My paintings are fragments of an ongoing inner dialogue, an attempt to understand, question, and transform the complexity of being human.

An early recognition of my artistic journey came at the age of sixteen, when I was awarded first prize in the Painting category at Romania’s National Olympiad of Visual Arts, while attending art high school.
