Laura Browning

I create large-scale oil paintings of light on water, painted from memory rather than photographs. Each painting begins at the water's edge - in Hawaii, Mallorca, Costa Rica, or the backyard pool of my midcentury Eichler home in the San Francisco Bay Area - and finds its way to the canvas weeks or months later, filtered through memory until only what matters remains.

Working in multiple layers of transparent oil glaze, I build each painting slowly toward a feeling rather than a record. Not what water looks like, but what it feels like to truly see it. The result is not a specific place but a recognition - something the viewer already carries inside them that the painting simply returns.

My paintings are in permanent collections at Mayo Clinic, Apollo Global Management, Kaiser Permanente, and major healthcare systems across the United States, and are collected in private homes in over twenty countries. They are chosen for healing environments, corporate headquarters, luxury residences, and hospitality spaces for their quality of stillness, calm, and universal resonance.

Represented by galleries in the United States, Japan, and China.
