Laura Smith

I position my work somewhere near the edge of still life painting, where it approaches abstraction. I aim to dissolve our familiarity with ordinary objects and create spaces that are ambiguous in both scale and nature. I am trying to set up tensions between stillness and potential or encapsulated movement, thereby giving emotional weight to the details of the everyday.
