Aleksander Lefbard, a Tallinn-based artist born in 1971, has a global perspective deeply ingrained in his soul. Having lived and worked in diverse locales from Lithuania and Sweden to France and China, he effortlessly communicates in multiple languages, both in speech and through his art.
The vibrancy of Lefbard's palette, punctuated by intricate shapes and eclectic materials, stands out distinctly in the art scene. While the echoes of Russolo and Kandinsky—the famed Russian and Italian futurists—resonate in his work, Lefbard's style aligns more closely with impressionism and post-impressionism. His canvases dance with scenes of bustling cityscapes, introspective portraits, still life, and abstract forms.
But beyond his visual craft, Lefbard possesses a melodious background, educated in music and blessed with the rare phenomenon of synesthesia. This allows him to "hear" the symphony in colors and forms, infusing his artwork with a uniquely rhythmic essence.
Consistently described as exuberant and optimistic, Lefbard's creations mirror his positive outlook. They paint a hopeful vision of a world where humanity, art, and technology harmoniously intertwine.
While holding a degree in applied physics, as an artist Lefbard is largely self-taught.
His art education began with his father (a graduate of the Surikov Art Institute) who mentored him in artistic mastery.
“At the age of 3 my father introduced me to the world of art, and continued to share his knowledge and secrets with me up until his death.
I have many memories of my childhood enjoying plein-air painting with my father, and spending countless hours drawing.
It was this powerful foundation upon which I would later build through the collection of art books and study of artists both prolific and obscure, that would ultimately lead me to my own style.”
Over the past 10 years, Aleksander Lefbard has periodically held solo exhibitions where he shares his vision, discusses his creative journey, and imparts knowledge about art and its masters.
His exhibitions have attracted media attention, with many featured on television. The latest exhibition, incorporating AI technology to visualize his paintings, offered guests a unique interactive experience, blending art with technology in a groundbreaking format.
