Leonard Barrett

1938 saskatoon saskatchewan welcomed an artist into the world. leonard barrett, the second of three children was born to mary barrett and oscar sheldon barrett. while growning up on the praries leonard spent many lazy summer days and cold winter nights discovering his talent using a simple crayon or charcol from the woodburning stove.after meeting and marrying his sweetheart, leonard brought his young wife brenda to the west coast of vancouver island, and it was there he found that painting west coast first nations peoples was to become the passion you now view in his art.From the west coast leonard and brenda along with two children found themselves living amongst the inuit people of frobisher bay, paintings from that time are now hanging in private collections. the individual faces each invoke different emotional response, faces that never challenge the viewer but instead they draw you in closer looking deep into their eyes, willing them to tell you their story.
