Judy Lew Loose

For many decades, I have explored and expanded the expressive potential of watercolor, pushing beyond traditional boundaries through innovative techniques and a bold use of color. Working in a contemporary pointillist style, I create dynamic, light-filled compositions that emphasize movement, vibrancy, and emotional depth.

A defining shift in my practice has been my use of Aquabord in place of traditional paper. This surface intensifies color, enhances luminosity, and eliminates the need for glass, allowing for a more immediate and immersive viewing experience. Inspired by the beauty and energy of the natural world, my work seeks to capture and amplify the drama of a single moment.
My process is guided by both intention and intuition, with light and color serving as the foundation of each piece. Over time, my artistic voice has evolved alongside my personal journey, resulting in work that is increasingly expressive and resonant. I aim to reveal the inner vitality of my subjects and invite viewers into that experience.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and fine art studies at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. My paintings are included in public art programs, hospitals, professional organizations, and private collections.
I remain committed to advancing watercolor as a medium, advocating for its place alongside oil painting in gallery, corporate, and museum collections.
