Liane Kusters

I work primarily with acrylic on canvas, building paintings through many layers of paint, texture and colour. I usually begin with a clear idea or visual direction, but once the process starts, the painting often develops in unexpected ways. Layers are added, scraped back, covered and reworked until the image begins to find its own balance.

Landscapes, weather, vegetation and details from nature are recurring sources of inspiration in my work. Some paintings remain connected to the visible world, while others gradually move further into abstraction. Much of my work is about layering. Building up surfaces, textures and colour until the painting starts to feel alive.

Independent artist based in the Netherlands, developing a self-directed studio practice focused on material exploration and series-based work.
