Lill Bente Hollstedt

I work both figuratively and abstractly, letting intuition and curiosity guide my expression. In my paintings, I am always searching for balance and composition—whether through bold colours and tropical scenes, or through more contemplative portraits and collage-like abstractions.

My figurative works explore stereotypes and relationships, often with an eye for the exaggerated, the vulnerable—and the deeply human. I draw inspiration from memories and small moments, and I’m fascinated by how differently they are interpreted from person to person.

At other times, I paint simply for the joy of it. These pieces may radiate energy and playfulness, without heavy intention but with a strong sense of creative delight. In my abstract works, I let the process take the lead, stopping only when the composition settles into its own calm.

What unites all my work is the wish for the motif to “sit well within the frame.” I work methodically, yet remain open to the painting surprising me and telling its own story. For me, painting is an emotional process—and I believe the best way to experience art is the same way: by meeting it with the heart before the mind.
