Linda Mccluskey

Born in 1957 in Boston, Massachusetts,I now live as a fulltime painter in Paris.

There is beauty, balance and composition in everything and my work is about capturing them. Sometimes, it's just the shape of a shadow that holds the balance or the street posts drawing a line to the horizon. During my 6 years as a painter in Paris, the subject matter has changed from music to traditional views to the twisty perspective play of rooftops and street scenes. Though the subject matter seems very different, it's really not as my intention was always to capture not only what I saw but how I felt. In other words, I paint a scene as it exists in my head. A long time ago, a painting teacher told me that painting is not the act of capturing what is there but what should be there. I bend the perspective to incorporate the things that wouldn't appear in a photograph and paint out other things that don't belong. I create my own world and put it on canvas to share with others.
