RECOGNITION
I am a contemporary British painter whose work is driven by a deep fascination with material, process, and the sensory encounters of everyday life. My practice explores the tension between a slow, considered painting process and the dynamic pace of modern visual experience. My aim is to transform paint and surface into immersive, tactile fields of colour and form. I experiment with a wide range of substrates including plywood, panel, sandpaper and hardboard, chosen for their textural presence and ability to both assist and disrupt the application of paint. Through layering, gesture, geometric structure and collage, I build compositions that hover between abstraction and suggestion, inviting viewers to encounter both physicality and atmosphere within each piece. I graduated from Coventry University with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and have been recognised in awards such as second prize in the Gilchrist Fisher Award and first prize in the PS Mirabel Open. My works are held in the Priseman-Seabrook Collection and private collections internationally.
2006 - 2009 BA (Hons) in Fine Art, Coventry University
I have presented work across the UK and internationally in solo, two-person and group exhibitions. Recent solo and collaborative projects include Colour Theory at OSKA, Edinburgh (2023) and Strata with Elise Ashby at Paper Gallery, Manchester (2021), curated by Laura Harris, where my layered surfaces and gestural marks dialogued with themes of material and time. My work has also been shown at Volume Gallery in Berlin (A Piece of Magic, 2018), Kir Royal Gallery in Madrid (Sobre fragmentos y materia, 2017), and PS Mirabel, Manchester (Paintings as Objects, 2016). I’ve participated in major group exhibitions including the Wrexham Painting Prize (2025), Summer Exhibition at Wasps Riverside House, Edinburgh (2025), Assembly at Rye Creative Centre (2024), and Leeds Summer Show at Leeds Playhouse (2023), alongside numerous other curated shows across the UK, Europe and beyond.
