Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1967, Lisa Gibbons’ connection to nature began at the age of four years, when her parents relocated from the large urban center to Refuge Cove, on West Redonda Island. Living ‘off the land’ in a remote water-access-only community of thirty people, Lisa and her family lived in a log house at the edge of the sea. During her formative years, with the coastal rainforest as her backyard, she developed a strong attachment to nature and wildlife, which today infuses her art.
Lisa studied at Emily Carr University in Vancouver in her early twenties. Later, she was mentored by a number of important Canadian artists, who recognized her creative aptitude and potential.
Lisa’s style developed over the years into a mixed media art form that reflects the lush coastal landscape and seascape of British Columbia, and beyond that, incorporates personal symbolic language, dream imagery and Jungian archetypes. Her work incorporates watercolour, acrylic, drawing, collage, assemblage, encaustic and gold leaf, creating rich textured and multi-layered surfaces.
Her work has an impressive sales history, and is held widely in private collections throughout North America, Europe and Australia.
