Louise has just graduated from the University of Edinburgh after 4 years of specialising in painting. She is now living and working between Manchester and Edinburgh. Her work was initially inspired by her love for music and its relationship to dance. Through the process of screen printing onto fabrics, she aims to capture a sense of escapism through the realm of dance. Her practice centres around the female body entering an imaginary world/psychological state. Through combining found imagery of the female body and painterly patterns she creates obscured realities, through a visual detachment from familiar environments. Alongside her printmaking, she creates work through collage, with the use of acrylic and gouache paints. She enjoys bringing attention to the wooden stretcher through the use of fabric as a canvas, allowing her paintings to embed different dimensions. She wants the strong pigmented colours in her work to create aesthetic compositions, paying close attention to how each work sits alongside the next. The bold colours used in her materials and paint aim to create paintings that unite the imaginary and the celebratory.
