Lucy Birch makes abstract paintings that are vivid, layered and intricate. For people drawn to colour and place rather than pattern or prettiness. The kind of work you keep looking at and finding something different.

Lucy is a gestural abstract painter based in Sligo, Ireland. She came to painting in 2025, but has been thinking visually for much longer, her studies in graphic design and furniture and product design gave her a lasting foundation in composition, form, and colour that now shapes everything she puts on canvas.

Her work is layered, bold, and alive with the restless energy of the west of Ireland, a place where wind, rain and sudden bursts of sunshine keep the landscape in constant, dramatic motion, shifting from one extreme to the other in a matter of minutes. That restlessness, its colours, its movement, its ever-changing light, is absorbed and then released onto canvas in pure abstract form.

Lucy's paintings are made to live with, vivid enough to hold a room, poetic enough to reward a longer look.
