Luis Diaz's work is a culmination of years of experience with color, design and painting. It stems from the human desire to find familiarity from marks and shapes. These paintings are the attempts at capturing these forms before they vanish. Sometimes they take several attempts, but the idea is to move fast and use different surfaces. Some porous. Some slick. His preferred materials include palette knives, spraying tools, needle nose ink dispensers and anything found walking in the street collected through the years. Diaz uses acrylics, inks, watercolors and mixtures collected on discarded 35 millimeter film canisters.

Born in Cardenas, Cuba his family migrated to the States in 1982 stopping in Costa Rica and Mexico along the way. His family established themselves in Miami where a young Diaz started to draw. Diaz would go on to a commerical art magnet high school and then major in Illustration at the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore. Diaz has worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for TV, web, print and interactive for over 25 years. He currently paints at his art studio in the Midwest.
