Lynda R Stevens

I have worked with mixed media materials for many years, creating assermblages made out of found objects including textiles fragments, candle wax, clay, polystyrene, metall foil, marbles and glass fragments. These earlier works were more like scupltures than painting.

More recently I have been working with acrylic on canvas, sometimes using gold pigment and white spirit, to disperse the paint into pours and splatters in order to create images of cosmic galaxies and nebulae.

I work via a process of psychic automatism , exploring the tensions between order snd chaos, creation snd destruction. Volcanic forces, cityscapes depicting demolition or erosion feature strongly as motifs, as do jewelled landscapes, or nova and nebulae in derp space.

I work on canvas, though earlier works were created on board, and to begin with I worked primarily on A4-sized paper, first creating media assemblage pieces and before that, cplour abstract dtawimgs using colour pencils with black ink headlines.

M y first degree was in English and Italian Literature from the University of Warwick , completed in 1981. After graduating during a period of unprecendented unemployment I tooknthe opportunity to follow my creative interests.

I completed a diploma in Fine Arts from the Leamington College of FE 1985, and a Certificate in Course Materials from Coventry University, 1987. Both courses were part-time.

Since 2025 I have exhibited at several juroed group exhibitions at venues including The Golden Duck, AP Galeria and The Artist's Chamber, including at venues n Vienna and in Romania.
