There is a kind of tension between the way a painting interacts with the viewer. I paint to make a piece with presence-- a piece that makes you feel you are in the room with someone. I'm interested in the lasting presence of a person or place--the experience you have when you remember them. Paintings can capture fleeting moments that are otherwise lost.
I am self taught. I'm interested in the way light and tone express themselves through paint. I have been around art and artists most of my life. I am born in Chicago and now live in New York, in between I've lived in Paris, London and Milan. The experience of women is my focus. My main living influences are John Currin, Jennifer Bartlett, and Devorah Jacoby. Of the greats I love Goya, Manet, Lucas Cranach, Degas and Albrecht Durer.
