Maarit Korhonen

I am a Finland-based painter and longtime music maker, currently focusing on abstract visual art. My artistic journey began with realistic paintings, then moved toward humor and playfulness, and today I explore abstraction as my primary form of expression.
My abstract paintings are built from shape, line, and rhythm, using layered colors to create depth and atmosphere. I often repeat figures two or more times in a single composition, adding movement and a sense of inner dialogue.
I draw inspiration from everyday life, people, music, rhythm, dance, movies, and the small details that spark curiosity and imagination. I work in both small and large formats, though I am particularly drawn to larger-scale paintings that allow space for gesture and atmosphere.

My work is held in private collections in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East.
