Madalena Aires work reflects a natural evolution within her creative practice: a transition towards a more spontaneous, atmospheric and reflective expression, fully aligned with the emotional and poetic essence that has always characterised her work.
There is an investigation of rythm, erosion and acumulation, through layers of poured, scraped and draged pigment, alowing control and chance to share authorship. Vertical gestures act as both structure and time keeper.
Color is emotional rather than descriptive. The tensions across the canvas may vary.
There is this idea of coexistence between different emotional states, times and invisible realities that intersect in parallel within the human experience. Surfaces, layers and gestures become sensitive fragments of emotions and atmospheres, dispensing with the need for objective representation. The viewer’s gaze no longer searches for recognisable forms, but instead surrenders to sensation, depth and an intimate relationship with the material itself.

Architect (Oporto School of Architecture FAUP). I was based in London for about 10 years, where I have worked as a full time architect, and have kept frenetically painting and drawing. I have done education at Slade School of Fine Arts, UCL, London and at Central Saint Martins College.
