Maggie Chao

Maggie is a self-taught artist from Taiwan, living in Qatar for the past seventeen years. Her artistic journey is deeply shaped by the landscapes and cultural contrasts of the Middle East, where she explores themes of femininity, inner strength, and the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience.

Much of her work focuses on the feminine form, not only as a symbol of beauty but also as a representation of suppressed and neglected energy that deserves recognition and voice. Through bold strokes, fragmented color, and abstraction, she aim to capture both fragility and power in the female experience.

Another body of her work draws inspiration from the desert, where vast horizons and shifting hues become metaphors for silence, transformation, and endurance. In these pieces, the soft yet radiant desert palette—sun-washed yellows, deep purples, and fiery oranges—mirrors the emotional landscapes she seeks to express.

She primarily work in oil on canvas, but she also explores collage and digital painting, bringing layers of texture and modern sensibilities into traditional mediums.
