Magrico -

MAGRIÇO · based in Portugal. He studies and develops his work around the “psyche”. His practice spans multiple media, from painting to music, from photography to video. His engagement with the art scene emerged in the 1990s; it was in Évora that painting gained particular prominence in his practice, establishing itself as the central medium of his work (‘07 - ‘17; aka “gregório”). He later returned to his hometown in the Lezíria Ribatejana (Coruche, '17; aka “magriço”), where he continues to develop his artistic research.

The construction of the aesthetic meaning in his work is grounded in the relationships between the symbolic, the imaginary, and the real. In his most recent pictorial works, he appropriates symbols from everyday life and the collective imagination, displacing their meanings through satire.

He has held several solo and group exhibitions and is represented in private collections.
