Maksim Kogut (b. 1973, Moscow) is a sculptor working in an original technique combining papier-mâché, plaster, paper and fabric soaked in a proprietary solution. He calls himself "a catcher of elusive images" — his psychedelic, dreamlike objects are built in the logic of dream and illusion, generating multiple, shifting associations rather than one fixed image.
Kogut studied clinical psychology at Lomonosov Moscow State University and later worked in a psychiatric hospital and taught psychology at the Moscow State Social University. This background shapes his central interest: art as a way to give form to the unconscious, complementing what psychology alone cannot capture. He also attended lectures in philosophy and art history at the Institute of Philosophy, RGSU, and the Stroganov Academy, and has a background as a pianist.
His works are held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Russian Lubok and Naive Art (a department of the Ilya Glazunov State Picture Gallery, Moscow), registered in the State Catalogue of the Museum Fund of the Russian Federation.
