Maks Kapalski

I am a sculptor and a museum curator. I specialize in large ceramic sculptures, being mainly inspired by the form of a human body. In my art, I try to combine the old with the new. One of my exhibitions is called "Lapidarium". The exhibition is the result of my interest in damaged ancient sculpture. This collection of broken pieces and sculptures becomes a place of fulfilled whole. The same is true for human life composed of seemingly random events. They may seem random at first but then, we actually notice that they make up a whole story of our lives that we create. Apart from making sculpture, I also paint icons and panels that refer to the illuminations of medieval manuscripts largely based on sacred geometry.

My passion for art has always been accompanied by my interest in spirituality.

In 1998 I began to study the writings of the fathers of the desert. I was particularly interested in texts indicating the heart as the most important organ in the human body. These readings introduced me to the path of meditation which meant leaving the mind and entering the heart space. Since then I have been practicing and teaching this form of meditation combining it with the practice of mindfulness.
