Malachai Mockabee

My art is born from a place of healing, freedom, and ancestral connection. I create through a freestyle process where my hand moves intuitively, guided by emotions and energies that flow through me. This method is both spiritual and raw-on unfiltered expression that emerges without planning or hesitation.

What begins as scribbles during times of anxiety or stress evolves into intricate pieces, where patterns and forms reveal themselves organically. It's a joumey where creativity becomes a dialogue between the conscious and the unconscious, a conversation that feels deeply connected to something beyond myself.

My work is driven by the need to reclaim my voice, to honor the energies of those who came before me, and to express a truth that feels both personal and universal. The abstract, flowing nature of my art reflects the complex interplay of healing, ancestry, and emotion-transforming pain and chaos into beauty and meaning.

THINK CONTEMPO, 2023

“Think Contempo” is an exhibition curated by Galeria Azur in Madrid, Spain. "Think Contempo" is a reminder that contemporary art has the power to act as a mirror of our society and inspire meaningful dialogues about who we are and where we are headed.

Malachai was the artist chosen to represent Australia in Spain. The main idea of the exhibition was to enable the viewer to perceive primarily through the senses, particularly the visual sense. The real and the illusory, the technical and the painterly, delve into different layers. Vigorous expression or subtle traces stimulate traces of the past that merge with imprints of the present. Thus, fiction and information manifest themselves in a unique language called concept.

For his debut exhibition, Malachai, chose to explorer colours, shapes and materials. He introduced to his audience not only paintings but also clothing designs. He combined art, with music, food & drinks to provide a whole experience for his community.
